Implementing Single Sign-On for Mercedes Benz

Single Sign-On for Mercedes Benz

miniOrange + Mercedes Benz

Mercedes Benz, a renowned automotive manufacturer, stands as a symbol of luxury, innovation, and engineering excellence worldwide. With a global presence, Mercedes Benz leads the automotive industry in delivering cutting-edge vehicles and mobility solutions.

Problem:

Mercedes Benz aimed to increase security for Atlassian Crowd by integrating their OAuth Provider with Crowd, thus implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) for improved authentication. Crowd serves as the centralized directory for all Atlassian applications, and their primary objective was to fortify authentication processes while simplifying user management. Additionally, they were looking to enable security policies like Two-Factor Authentication(2FA), IP Restriction and Password Policy from their OAuth provider.

Solution:

Mercedes was able to use our Crowd OAuth Single Sign On (SSO) plugin for this use case. Our app that is installed in Crowd, seamlessly integrated with their OAuth Provider. Our app basically establishes a “trust” between Crowd and the OAuth/OIDC Provider. Trust refers to the establishment of a secure relationship between these systems to facilitate authentication and authorization processes. Once a user visits the Crowd login page, they are automatically redirected to the OAuth/OIDC Provider and prompted to login. On successful authentication, they are redirected back to Crowd and are logged in with respective access controls. The provisioning of the user happens upon SSO and the user is automatically provided with the necessary configured permissions. Our OAuth/OIDC Single Sign on provides the best SSO features that works with all Identity Providers. It enables users to sign in to the application with their Identity Provider. We support all known providers such as Google Apps, ADFS, Azure AD, Okta, Facebook, Salesforce, GitHub, GitLab, Keycloak, Discord, meetup, AWS Cognito, Azure B2C, Slack, miniOrange, etc.

From the Admin's Perspective:

Implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) empowered Mercedes Benz administrators to efficiently oversee user and group management, thereby enhancing productivity and collaboration. The work of admins is now much easier. A user created in the Identity Provider, is now automatically created in Crowd during login using our Just-In-Time Provisioning Feature. The user groups and permissions can be automatically assigned upon login as per configuration.

miniOrange's Crowd OAuth SSO solution enabled Mercedes Benz to achieve their SSO objectives efficiently, enhancing security and user experience. As the exclusive Crowd Security vendor on the Atlassian Marketplace, we take pride in delivering innovative solutions that precisely cater to our clients' needs, propelling Mercedes Benz towards success in their SSO journey.
